A latex mattress topper is a great way to improve the comfort and support of your existing mattress. If you're in the market for a new topper, there are a few things you should consider before making your purchase.

Latex Topper Thickness

First and foremost, you should decide on the thickness of the topper. A thicker topper will provide more cushioning and support, while a thinner topper will provide less. Consider your weight, sleeping position, and any specific comfort needs you may have when choosing the thickness of your topper. A 3-inch topper will prove a significant positive difference from the present feel of your mattress, while a 2-inch topper will give it just a little extra cushioning. If you are of a larger build, you’ll need at least 3 inches, whereas if you are on the lighter side, 2 inches should do just fine. As well, a person who sleeps on his or her side may want to opt for a 3-inch depth, since there is more weight concentrated in the hips and shoulder areas that needs to have pressure alleviated. A person sleeping on his or her back has their weight more distributed, and depending on their weight, could do okay with a 2-inch latex mattress topper.

Topper Firmness Level

Next, you should choose the firmness level of your topper. Our latex toppers are available in a range of firmness levels, from Soft to Firm. Again, consider your personal comfort needs and preferences when choosing the firmness of your topper. A firmer mattress topper will serve a larger build better because there will be more support and less sink, while a softer topper will serve a lighter build better. Also, if you enjoy sinking into a mattress, a softer topper would be your go-to, while one who wants more support would tend towards a firmer latex topper. Another factor to consider is that a denser/firmer mattress topper is generally more durable; nevertheless, all of our mattress toppers do come with a 5-year warranty. Because your topper is constructed from all-natural latex (GOLS certified dunlop latex), it will inherently last longer than any of its blended or synthetic latex counterparts.

Should I Add an Organic Cotton Cover to my Purchase?

In addition to the above, you’ll want to decide whether or not to add a cover to your purchase. You can certainly opt to simply put your latex topper underneath your existing fitted sheet. But, you may determine that it’s ultimately better to have a cotton cover for the added protection it provides your new natural latex topper, and so that you are able to more easily move or rotate your topper as needed.

  • Should I order the soft, medium or firm comfort level?

    Soft (ILD 15) is ultra-plush, for those who prefer softness you can sink into. Choose a soft topper if you know you need maximum pressure relief and don't require extra support from your topper. You're likely also a side sleeper and have a light body weight.

    Medium (ILD 28) blends support with just enough softness. Medium is recommended for side sleepers and anyone who needs some relief from pressure point pain in the shoulders, hips, and knees.

    Firm (ILD 36) is extra-supportive and dense, with very little "give". Firm is only recommended for back or stomach sleepers who want to firm up the feel of their mattress and need very little pressure relief.

  • Do I need the organic cotton cover?

    You don’t need a cover for your latex topper, but there are advantages to having one. Adding a GOTS-certified organic cotton cover to your latex topper protects your latex from stains and spills, makes it easier to pick up and move from one mattress to another, makes it easier to store for later use, and it adds a small layer of organic cotton comfort to your bed.

  • Is there any problem with the latex topper sliding or moving around?

    Once your topper is correctly placed on the mattress, there should be no slipping. The cover helps to ensure that the topper remains in place for comfortable sleep, but it should also stay in place without the cover if placed on top of your mattress and underneath your mattress protector or sheets.

  • What if I don’t like the topper? Can I return it?

    Unfortunately not. Because toppers are considered a personal bedding item, we are not allowed to accept returns. Fortunately, your topper can be used universally with any bedroom mattress.
